About Vanessa
Vanessa is the calm in a conference week. At 173 cm and slim, she wears sandy brown hair long with a soft balayage, and her hazel eyes make people say more than they meant to. She dresses in understated coastal colours, sand, stone and navy: a linen blazer over a silk camisole, low sandals, a thin gold chain. There is nothing to distract from her face, which is entirely the point.
Sweet, curious and completely relaxed, Vanessa asks more questions than anyone else on the list, and she remembers the answers. Her English is fluent and warm. She is always learning a language, a few words a day, and loves collecting a phrase from wherever you happen to have travelled from. She seeks out perfumes from small houses, cycles across London whenever she can and plans her holidays around coastal paths and lighthouses.
Her Royal Docks evening is built for guests at ExCeL. When the exhibition halls close, she meets you aboard Sunborn London, the superyacht hotel moored on Royal Victoria Dock, a few minutes' walk from the conference doors. Dinner on board looks across the water to the cable car and the lights of Canary Wharf beyond. She lets you tell her about the day, then makes sure you stop thinking about it.
Vanessa lives in Paddington, straight down the Elizabeth line to Custom House, and her diary is most open midweek. For the Royal Docks, which lie in Zone 3, the desk agrees the two-way taxi fare before the booking stands. Hotels near the halls are on the Royal Docks and ExCeL page, the ladder on rates, and booking takes your message.

Vanessa after six
Vanessa's ideal evening begins at half past six, just as the halls at ExCeL empty and the lanyards come off. She meets you on the quay, away from the crowd, and walks you the few minutes to the gangway with a question about your day already waiting.
Dinner is unhurried and light. She asks you to teach her a word, any word, and she practises it until she has it exactly right, laughing at her own accent. As the dock darkens the cable car cabins cross the sky like slow lanterns, and she points them out every time, as if they were brand new. By ten she has made a long day feel short, and the conference feel like something that happened to somebody else.
Three questions for Vanessa
Portuguese, badly. So far I can order coffee and apologise nicely, which covers most situations a traveller ever meets.
Something with vetiver in it, and not too much. A scent should be discovered at close range, never announced from across the room.
A coastal path somewhere with a lighthouse at the end. I walk until I reach it, and then I walk back very hungry.

Words about Vanessa
This panel stays dark until a guest who booked Vanessa writes in. Reviews go up with a first name and a month, only after Philippa has matched them to a real booking, and any of them comes down whenever Vanessa asks.
