Ten hours, from the closing bell to the opening one

No two nights run the same, but many follow an outline close to this one.

• 20:00. She arrives at your lobby or your door. A drink first, and the working day starts to recede.
• 20:45. Dinner, either on the estate or sent up to the room.
• 23:00. A walk beside the dock if the night is mild, or the view from the window if it is not.
• Midnight to 06:00. A quiet night. She is good company, and just as good at letting you sleep.
• 06:00. Coffee, the news, the towers catching first light, and the ten hours complete.

A night asks more of a room than an hour does. Guests who plan ahead often pick a river-facing room at Canary Riverside Plaza, where the Thames bends right past the glass, or a high floor on Marsh Wall with the estate lit up opposite. Further upstream, the Four Seasons in Ten Trinity Square and The Tower Hotel set the night beside Tower Bridge, and in Wapping a warehouse apartment above the river is quieter still. A private flat works on identical terms. If the morning matters, ask your hotel at check-in for a later checkout; many will agree when asked early, and it takes the rush out of the last hour.

A night uses up her entire evening and the morning after it, so the best choice of names comes with a day of notice. The same day is often possible if you write before the afternoon is out. Many overnights on a Thursday turn out to be mostly conversation, a late film and a very good breakfast, and nothing about the fee changes because of it. The fee buys her company across all ten hours, whether they fill up with conversation, a film or simply a good night of sleep.

She leaves when the ten hours are up, or earlier if your first meeting is at seven and you would rather have the room to yourself, with no change to the fee. Breakfast is yours to order and to share.
