About Nancy

Nancy walks into a Canary Wharf lobby as if it were the first warm day of the year. Curvy at 170 cm, golden blonde hair falling long, eyes a bright clear blue, she carries the easy glow of someone who was near water recently. Her evening style is simple and bright: a silk shirt dress in a clear colour, gold sandals, a light trench for the wind that funnels between the towers. She looks relaxed because she genuinely is.

Sunny, energetic and thoroughly easygoing, Nancy is the antidote to a long quarter end. She speaks fluent, cheerful English and has never met a silence she could not fill kindly. She swims most mornings, open water at the Royal Docks in summer and a pool once it turns cold, and she plots road trips with the seriousness most people save for careers, with maps, playlists and a ranking of motorway coffee. Sushi is her favourite dinner, and she orders it with total confidence.

In E14 she heads to Sticks'n'Sushi at Crossrail Place, a few escalators above the Elizabeth line, where the room hums without ever shouting. She orders a spread to share, tells you which piece to eat first and why, and steals the last one with no apology whatsoever. Afterwards she likes a slow loop of the roof garden next door before it closes, or a walk down to the dock to watch the reflections settle for the night.

Nancy lives in Covent Garden, about twenty minutes from the Wharf. Midweek is usually open; for weekends, ask by Wednesday. Hotels around the station feature on the E14 page, the ladder on rates, and booking handles everything else.

04 · After the close

Nancy after six

Nancy's ideal evening starts early, at six, because she likes a little daylight at the beginning of a date. She is waiting where the escalators come up, with a grin and a plan, and dinner is under way before you have quite settled into your chair. She eats with real enthusiasm and talks about the best swim of her summer, a cold lake up north with nobody else in it for miles.

After the last piece of sushi she steers you outside to see the sky over the dock. If it is still light, you walk. If it is dark, you walk anyway, because she insists the towers look better from the water's edge. She has a way of making a Tuesday feel like the first night of a holiday, and she knows it, and she enjoys every minute.

05 · In her own words

Three questions for Nancy

Up the west coast of Scotland, windows down, stopping at every beach that looks too cold for swimming. Then swimming in it anyway.

Salmon, always, to settle in. Then the one the chef clearly cares about most. You can tell from the way it is cut and the way it is placed.

Cold water at seven in the morning. After that, nothing else in the day can really surprise you.
