About Molly

Ten o'clock is when Molly's evening begins, and she arrives looking as if the night owes her something good. She is 164 cm and curvy, with long dark brown hair in loose waves and brown eyes lined for the late hours. She dresses loud and knowing: a red dress or black satin, a vintage leather jacket, gold hoops, heels she can genuinely dance in. She is confident enough to wear all of it at once and warm enough that nobody minds.

Warm, playful and entirely sure of herself, Molly is at her best once the day has emptied out. She talks in fast, fluent English and laughs easily, often at herself. House music is the great love of her life, and she can name the producer of most tracks within a few bars. She mixes a proper cocktail at home, knows her bitters, and has an unexplained passion for old cars, especially anything with chrome trim and a bench seat.

Her Wapping night leans on Tobacco Dock, the vast Georgian warehouse by the old docks that now hosts some of London's big house weekenders. When an event is on there, she will already know the line-up. When there is not, she takes you instead to a quiet late bar and then down to the river at Wapping Old Stairs, where the Thames runs dark and quick and the towers of Canary Wharf blink downstream.

Molly lives in Soho, around twenty minutes from Wapping, and is happy to start at 10pm and run well past midnight. The Wapping page lists hotels near St Katharine's; each duration sits on rates, and a late message to booking is answered by a person, not a script.

04 · After the close

Molly after six

Her ideal night opens at ten sharp in your hotel bar: one Old Fashioned, stirred slowly, while she works out whether you are a dancer or a watcher. Either suits her perfectly well. By eleven there is a plan, and the plan always involves music of some kind.

If there is a set worth hearing, she takes you to it and shows you where to stand for the best sound. If not, she finds a bar with a decent system and a bartender who knows her name. Near two she wants the river, the cold air at Wapping Old Stairs and the lights shivering on the water. She is never tired before you are, and she is always the one who remembers the last track, the artist and the year it came out.

05 · In her own words

Three questions for Molly

Watchers are more relaxed and dancers have more fun. My favourite is the person who switches halfway through the night without noticing.

Something from the sixties with chrome bumpers and no power steering. You would have arms like a boxer by the end of the journey.

The moment the music gets worse than the conversation. That is usually much later than people think, and some nights it never happens at all.
